The drink was known in the 17<sup>th<\/sup> century as \u201cgruszecznik\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The earliest mention of the perry is derived from the dictionary of Grzegorz Knapius T<em>hesaurus polo-latino-graecus<\/em>, published in Cracow in 1643. We read a brief definition here:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Vinum factitium ex pyris<\/em>&#8220;, which is as follows: &#8220;<em>wine made of pears<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>The drink was also mentioned in Piotr Danet\u2019s dictionary in 1743: \u201c<em>In Normandy, the drink made of apples is called cider<\/em> [jab\u0142ecznik in Polish]; a<em>nd the other made of pears is perry<\/em> [gruszecznik].<\/p>\n<p>The famous Polish Dictionary of Samuel Bogumi\u0142 Linde from 1808 mentions a bit of this drink, giving another name &#8220;<em>grusznik<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ciderfrompoland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/gruszecznik-linde.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-287 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/ciderfrompoland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/gruszecznik-linde-300x149.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"149\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ciderfrompoland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/gruszecznik-linde-300x149.png 300w, http:\/\/ciderfrompoland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/gruszecznik-linde.png 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ciderfrompoland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/chyliczki.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-289 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/ciderfrompoland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/chyliczki-121x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"121\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/ciderfrompoland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/chyliczki-121x300.jpg 121w, http:\/\/ciderfrompoland.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/chyliczki.jpg 230w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 121px) 100vw, 121px\" \/><\/a>Nowadays some Polish producers offer perry.
