Our first Wassail in UK

During my research I found information about Wassail tradition. I wanted to go last year but my plans for January changed so I wasn’t able to take part. This year I told my husband “We HAVE TO go”. I started looking for the event during Christmas time and we decided to visit Westons Cider Mill in Much Marcle, Herefordshire.

The event started about 7pm with Morris dances. We love this traditional music and dance. Our son Tadeusz also enjoyed the performance.

The most impressive was a procession with torches. It was amazing – people gathering around the mill with warm light. After about 10 min walk we entered the orchard and started to singing wassail songs. There were also a traditional Butler’s speech and chanting. Of course, there was a shotgun fired up to scare away evil spirits. I tried cider from wassail bowl too.

We really enjoyed the event. Leszek had an opportunity to take some pictures in the orchard and practice his skills with shooting pics in the dark.
